Clean Water

Clean water is Montana’s lifeblood. In turn, Montana is the headwaters for much of our nation. Clean water is essential for our blue-ribbon fisheries, irrigating crops and pastures for farmers and ranchers, and providing drinking water. It supports our economy by providing for thriving outdoor recreation and craft beer industries. And most of all, we love to float, fish, and drink great beer!

In Montana, clean water is a way of life and a constitutional right.

We’re here to protect both.

We work to protect this valuable resource as well as your environmental rights.

Montana’s State Constitution is unique. In a 1999 landmark decision, MEIC v. Montana DEQ, the Montana Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Montanans’ constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment (Article IX, Section 1) is a fundamental right and one that is intended to be preventative in nature. This means that as a citizen of Montana, you have a constitutional right to clean water. We work hard to strengthen and uphold the laws that keep Montana’s watersheds free from pollution and the effects of irresponsible mining. We hope you’ll join us.
